Laps to Conquer M.S. Founders Receive National MS Society Hall of Fame Award

Media, Pa., November 26 - Fay and David Teal, founders of Laps to Conquer M.S., Inc. (LCMS), received the Greater Delaware Valley Chapter National MS Society's Hall of Fame Award at the November 17 annual awards luncheon.

The Greater Delaware Valley Chapter National MS Society's (NMSS) Hall of Fame Award is presented for outstanding fundraising achievement for research to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis. Since 1989 LCMS has raised over $126,000 for the NMSS.

"We are humbled by this honor," says Fay Teal, LCMS Executive Director and MS patient, "what LCMS collects is all spare pocket change. While I can't drive or walk myself, the drive to end MS will drive on until the checkered flag for MS waves."

Fay and David Teal started Laps to Conquer M.S., Inc., in 1989; to increase multiple sclerosis awareness through motorsports after Fay was diagnosed with MS. "I've been very involved with motorsports all my life and was in the process of getting my competition license," remembers Fay Teal, "but, the MS diagnosis ended that. Now I use my passion for motorsports to combat MS."

So far, LCMS has driven over 105,000 miles pursuing the checkered flag for MS. The drive has gone through 46 of the continental United States during 16 One Lap of America's - an 8-day, 5,000 (approximate) mile route through 16 (approx.) states, stopping at a different racetrack each day for timed laps. "I know we've been to all those states because we have 1 Lap Route Books to prove it, but I slept through half of them," muses David Teal, Assistant LCMS Executive Director.

LCMS' annual drive had two events this year. First was the April 30 - May 8 Tire Rack One Lap of America. The team of Fay Teal, David Teal, and Ron Pizor drove the LCMS GM Mobility, Dominion Title Sunoco Buick Rainier to finish 4th in SUV Class, and 60th Overall of the 84 entrants. Then on August 20 - 22, Tri Region Race Group held the NESCCA Double National Races for Laps to Conquer MS at Pocono International Raceway. Many other Sports Car Club of America race drivers, crewmembers and race workers contribute to LCMS.

The LCMS drive to end MS is fueled by sponsors allowing all monies collected on the drive to be donated to the NMSS. Second-year sponsor GM Mobility addresses the adaptive-equipment concerns of people with physical disabilities; information is available at www.gmmobility.com or 1.800.323.9935. Dominion Title Services, Inc., of Vineland, N.J., is a nine-year sponsor, who provides title insurance for real estate transactions. Sunoco Performance Products, of Marcus Hook, PA, is a sponsor since 1989; and the Sunoco Marcus Hook Refinery is a sponsor since 1992. SunGard Availability Services of Philadelphia, PA, is a first-year sponsor.

Associate sponsors include: Chambres and Associates of LaMott. Pa., a part of the drive to end MS since 1994; Steven Rudner, D.M.D., & Staff of Cherry Hill, N.J., a fourth-year sponsor; and the Friends of LCMS.

While MS awareness is the primary focus, LCMS has raised over $126,000 for the National MS Society. "I'm pleased LCMS collected this much," remarks Fay Teal, "but until the checkered flag waves for MS, LCMS will drive on to the cure."
