Laps to Conquer M.S. Donates $10,500 to National MS Society

Media, PA, December 7 - TThe 2006 Laps to Conquer MS, Inc. (LCMS), drive to end multiple sclerosis collects $10,500 in donations for the National MS Society (NMSS).

"This donation brings the total LCMS has collected for the NMSS since 1989 to $146,500," says Fay Teal, an MS patient and the LCMS Executive Director, "and it is all 'spare, pocket change'."

LCMS and the Dominion Title Audubon Environmental Baglier Sunoco Mazda6 made appearances at 16 motorsports events in 12 different states from May 6 through October 29, to collect $10,500 for the NMSS. At each appearance, racecar drivers, crew members, race workers and spectators made donations to the drive to end MS.

During the May 6 - 13 One Lap of America, the LCMS team of Fay Teal, David Teal, and Wayne Hickman competed with the Dominion Title Audubon Environmental Baglier Sunoco Mazda6 at eight (8) racetracks in seven (7) states: at Indiana's the Tire Rack Skid Pad and Putnam Park; Illinois' Autobahn Country Club; Iowa's Mid America Motorsports Park; Louisiana's No Problem Raceway; Georgia's Roebling Road; South Carolina's Florence Speedway; Virginia International Raceway; and Wisconsin's Road America. The LCMS Dominion Title Audubon Environmental Baglier Sunoco Mazda6 finished 65th Overall of 87 entrants and 12th of the 14 Mid Priced Sedan Class.

From June through October the LCMS Dominion Title Audubon Environmental Baglier Sunoco Mazda6 Paced racecars at ten (10) racetracks in four (4) states: West Virginia's Summit Point Motorsports Complex; Pennsylvania's Pocono International Raceway and BeaveRun Motorsports Complex; New York State's Watkins Glen International; and Ohio's Nelson Ledges Road Course. LCMS also made speaking and display appearances in New Jersey.

Fay and David Teal, of Media, PA, started Laps to Conquer MS, Inc., in 1989, to increase multiple sclerosis awareness through motorsports after Fay was diagnosed with MS. "I've been around and involved with motorsports all my life," remembers Fay Teal. "I was getting my competition license when the MS diagnosis ended my dream. Now I use my passion to combat MS and find a cure."

Since 1989, LCMS has raised over $146,000 for the National MS Society (www.nationalmssociety.org) while driving over 190,000 miles in the pursuit of the checkered flag for MS. Although the primary focus is MS awareness, "I am pleased that LCMS has collected this much," remarks Fay Teal. "But until the checkered flag waves for MS, LCMS will drive on toward the cure." The drive has taken LCMS through 46 of the continental United States during 18 OLOA's. Fay Teal has done 20 OLOA's.

Multiple Sclerosis is one of the more common diseases of the central nervous system that affects both young and old. MS affects more than 400,000 people in North America. The disease usually starts between the ages of 20 and 40 years with the average age-of-onset around 30. MS affects more women than men. No one can predict when, or if, there will be a cure for MS; but there is much hope. The ongoing advances in research-funded mostly by donations-include the areas of immunology and autoimmune diseases. Advances are occurring faster than ever before. Research continues to add to understanding how MS works and progresses.
