A Charity Drive to end Multiple Sclerosis
December 2006

LCMS Donated $10,500 to the National MS Society

Laps to Conquer M.S., Inc. (LCMS) made a $10,500 donation to the National MS Society (NMSS) after a busy year of increasing multiple sclerosis awareness through motorsports. "The $10,500 collected during 2006 brings the total collected for the NMSS by the LCMS drive to end MS since 1989 to $146,500," said Fay Teal, MS patient and LCMS Executive Director, "and it was all 'spare, pocket change'."

The LCMS Dominion Title Audubon Environmental Baglier Sunoco Mazda6 made appearances at 16 motorsports events in 12 different states from May 6 through October 29. At each appearance, racecar drivers, crew members, race workers and spectators were invited to donate to the drive to end MS.

This year's LCMS One Lap of America (OLOA) effort-Fay's 20th-was last-minute, again! On May 3, the new team of Fay & David Teal and Fay's son Wayne Hickman drove their motorhome across Pennsylvania to the BeaveRun Motorsports Complex to get the Dominion Title Audubon Environmental Baglier Sunoco Mazda6 Sport Wagon.

May 4, David and Wayne "dressed" the Mazda and loaded it. By mid-afternoon we were on the way to South Bend, Indiana, for the May 5 OLOA registration-without our camera! During the next 3,932 miles to 8 racetracks in 7 states, the 40+ year mom-son-struggle-for-domination continued while David drove the 17 competitions! Wayne spent the time-off from his auto repair shop; loading & unloading the Mazda6; photographing David's laps-with his new camera; checking on/bickering with Mom; and fixing other competitors cars!

The LCMS Dominion Title Audubon Environmental Baglier Sunoco Mazda6 finished 65th of 87 Overall and 12th of 14 in Mid Priced Sedan class. The mom-son issue is still not settled; but Wayne did say he had a good time on his 1st OLOA.

At the OLOA Awards Banquet, Fay was honored for 20 years of competing with a large floral bouquet in an engraved vase. "I was surprised twice," said Fay, "first by the award and then by a standing ovation from my fellow-competitors." David took a picture; it's on the LCMS website.

From June through October the LCMS Dominion Title Audubon Environmental Baglier Sunoco Mazda6 Paced racecars at 10 racetracks in 4 states: West Virginia's Summit Point Motorsports Complex; Pennsylvania's Pocono International Raceway and BeaveRun Motorsports Complex; New York state's Watkins Glen International; and Ohio's Nelson Ledges Road Course. LCMS made speaking and display appearances in New Jersey.

LCMS was the beneficiary of the Voorhees (NJ) Rotary Breakfast Club's Wheels for Charity Auto Show held May 4. In August, the Tri Region Sports Car Club of America Double National Races at Pocono International Raceway to Benefit LCMS generated a short TV spot on the local PBS station.

The Glen Region SCCA's Last Chance Enduro at Watkins Glen, NY, and the Western NY SCCA's Great Pumpkin Affair / Enduro at Nelson Ledges, OH, both named LCMS as event charity.

MS still exists in spite of advances in under-standing and treating it. So until there is a cure, LCMS drives on to the checkered flag.

Thank you, to the Sponsors who fuel the drive to end MS:
